Just Missed The Subtext

Was reading about Cairo in an old bit from the New Yorker, and I’ve often wondered, what does the author and by implication the publishers, want us to believe by this tale?
And any, not just by what in mind comes to play to you possibly by recent events there now, and how this post even relates.
What are we to make of any of it? How can we help? How does considering any of it help with our lives?
People are suffering. They’re dying for their ideals. They I assume in Cairo and Egypt in general, long for a sense of normal every day functioning, and a lasting one at best. Why can’t we have it? Why can’t pain and suffering all around the world end? That’s what I want to know? When does all this end?
